Visual Arts
Accomplishments:

The Visual Art program at TISS is well known for it's projects and the high level of student achievement. Student art work is exhibited within the school, at local hospitals, the public library, various industries, Blockhouse Island, and the Upper Canada District School Board. Students have won many awards and recognition for their creative talents at local and provincial competitions. Some of these competitions include the Marian Drysdale Award, Skills Canada, the Recorder and Times Design Ad Competition, Teletoon National Scholarship Competition and the Ontario Heritage Foundation. TISS art students have embellished our local community through the creation of many magnificent murals. One is found on the walls of the local Procter and Gamble plant; another is at the southeast exterior wall of our school. Our students have also designed many logos for local non-profit organizations, and designed and fabricated the large stained glass window found in the Hall of Achievement cabinet. The TISS Arts Department and Technological Studies Dept. have also produced the impressive TISS Sculpture which is now viewed from Parkedale Ave.

Music

The aim of music education is to guide the student, through musical experiences, to an enjoyment of what is excellent and to a sensitivity to what is beautiful and noble. These musical experiences will teach the students to know and appreciate music in as many forms as possible; thus they will bring added joy and enrichment to the quality of their lives and ultimately to their environment. Students will have an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of musical experiences, curricular and extracurricular, by belonging to the Concert Band, Choir, Musical and/or the Stage Band. These award winning groups perform in the school and the community. Students will participate competitively in festivals at local, provincial and national events. They will also perform at school functions and outside the school for various community and charitable organizations.

The music room has now moved to Room 117, the old hospitality room. The new venue has increased the floor space to better accommodate the growing AME 3/4A1 Course. There are presently over 60 members.

Drama

Dramatic Arts is a subject which encourages students to explore and to expand their creative and expressive potential. A first-time dramatic arts student does not have to be a great actor or actress --she/he just has to be willing to work hard and try new ideas. Although open courses involve many theatrical exercises and stage work, the primary purpose of these courses is to assist the students in developing their ability to express themselves with feeling. The students will also be developing their ability to speak and perform in front of an audience. The dramatic arts program initially focuses on developing the talents and skills of the individual which, in more advanced courses, will be refined and applied to theatrical productions. All courses involve trips to professional theatrical productions and a post-trip analysis of these productions.

Spring of 2005 saw the very successful performance of the "Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre." A great performance by the team made the play an instant hit that will be remembered.
